About Me, Dawn Hatzidakis

I'm Dawn Hatzidakis, a second-generation metalsmith, wife, and mother from Crestwood, KY, just outside of Louisville, KY. My parents share a deep love for jewelry design, and it was my mother who first introduced me to the art of metalsmithing. After my career in the corporate world, I embarked on a career change in my early 40s, diving into the world of jewelry making.

Why Copper?

My lifelong fascination with unique colors and patterns, nurtured by my background in fine arts, naturally drew me to copper. Copper's remarkable ability to change colors, bend, and fold captured my imagination. I don't approach my work with preconceived plans or sketches; instead, I let the metal itself guide me. As I engage in processes like cutting, hammering, soldering, etching, and finishing, each piece of copper jewelry transforms into its own distinctive design. Every creation is a labor of love, meticulously handcrafted from start to finish.

Mastery of Patina

My true passion as a coppersmith jewelry designer lies in mastering the art of patina. Have you ever marveled at the Statue of Liberty's turquoise hue? It's a result of copper naturally patinating over the years. The elements of nature working it's magic, oxidizing the metal and awarding it with unique shades of color.
